Justin Cao

Justin Cao is an artist from Shanghai who lives in New York. He graduated from Pratt School of Art in New York with a Bachelor degree in Industrial Design under Lucia DeRespinis and minored in ceramics. Inspired by surrealist artists Rene Magritte and Salvador Dali, Justin's understanding of the relationship between material and expression is influenced by materialist artist Lee Ufan and sculptor Isamu Noguchi, who sought to find aesthetic balance in artificial nature. His true affection is for creating poetic pieces, blending oriental rhythms into modern designs. Cao’s artworks often come out in organic asymmetric forms, with the aesthetic of wabi-sabi, he avoids limiting them to any certain media or material.
