The installation of golden ceramic sculptures of peculiar floral and vulvar forms is hanging in front of the viewer. In such a bold attempt to expose the tantalizing and daring sexual side of femininity, Liu Xi emphatically appeals to women. In the wake of #metoo movement reaching every corner of the world, a young female artist stresses the importance of ‘light’ - illuminating the power of women’s awareness of the full spectrum of their femininity, which enables them to address their needs, desires and ultimately, rights in the most honest and unbiased way.
"Our God is Great" is a series of vaginas, dipped in gold. In some of the objects, a European lace tradition is encountered, where repeated patterns are shown in the gold-colored flesh. Like a lace cloth dipped in gold, then twisted and folded. Others look almost animalistic, or as if they come from the plant kingdom, as one of Georgia O'Keeffe's folded petals. But most of all, they are bodybuilders and gynecologists. Dripping like honey, glistening, open or closed, full of folds and layers. God is great, but the female sex is greater, it contains life itself. She goes to great lengths to challenge a ling line of traditional Chinese ceramics and patriarchal social constructions.
