J McDonald
There are different ways to bring nature inside your house— raising plants can be one option, but you can do it also by bringing artworks from designers and sculptors who are capable of capturing nature in their works, J McDonald is one of those artists.
Based in Brooklyn, New York, J McDonald's passion for art and design emerged and his aesthetics formed during his one-year-long stay in West Africa working on a house project. His close contact with nature sparked his realization that humans have an essential nostalgia for designs that contain the magic of earthly nature, which has been faded with the invasion of the rectilinearity and coldness of contemporary design.
In stark contrast, J McDonald creates otherworldly furniture and objects that explore that tensions, relationships, and connections between humans and our environment. His simply and minimalistic design is earthly, durable, and alive , thus have the power to bring out the organic and intuitive forces that dormant deep within us. J McDonald believes that furniture and objects designs, even simply a chair or a fan, can largely influence human behaviour and psyche, therefore shape our spiritual and physical existence to build a more egalitarian, harmonious, and environmental-friendly world.

Cube Variations 9 is McDonald's largest piece to date using a newly developed welding process, an amalgamation of thousands of tiny pools of molten metal which harden into a highly textured steel skin. Sitting atop this otherworldly body is a smooth, clean and precise mirror glass monolith. Reflective when the internal light is off, but growing transparent as the light inside increases, the cube reveals the creature within.
